In 2005, The Weather Channel produced an award winning investigation series – Running On Empty. Presented by Ian Leslie (ex 60 minutes), Running on Empty showcased the facts and issues surrounding Australia’s water crisis. The Weather Channel’s also aired a debate on Desalination: Good Sense or Nonsense. Moderated by Ian Leslie it brought together experts, the public, the media and interested parties to discuss the implications of the construction of Desalination plants across Australia.
This year The Weather Channel has set a new standard for education in Australian, with Weather ED a 10 part series specifically targeted to young people in secondary schools. Weather ED will cover topics related to the weather and interprets the subject matter in a visual and exciting manner that secondary school age children can relate to. It is presented by two hip young presenters and has been developed in partnership with the CSIRO, the Bureau of Meteorology, Australian Geography Teachers Association (AGTA), State Emergency Services (SES) and the Rural Fire Service (RFS).The Weather Ed series also has a free online classroom source for teachers and students to use as an additional resource.
